Career Guidance Handbook: A Guide for Enrolment into Health Related Programs
Abstract
INTRODUCTION
Choosing the right career can be a challenging task if information is not readily available to the students, their parents and career counsellors. Experience shows that many students who have the competence, interest and basic requirements, but lack career guidance and career information, normally find themselves at a loss in terms of career choice and decision regarding available training institutions, corresponding career development options and job prospects after completion of a training. Such students may end up enrolling for programs that are not in tandem with their abilities. Paradoxically, there are several career development avenues available almost at every transitional levels of education. What is lacking is the information and information materials, which are not getting through to the prospective students.
In line with the strategy to avail information and information materials to address the above challenges, Ministry of Education and Sports, particularly the Guidance and Counselling Department, together with its partners, have embarked on developing literature that will help Career Masters, students and their parents, on matters related to career choice and decision-making. Career Guidance Handbook: A Guide to Enrolment into Health Related Programs, is one such publications; intended to provide information on training opportunities in the heath and medical fields; by giving guidance to prospective students, Career Guidance Masters Mistresses, Head teachers and parents of students in Secondary Schools to enable them make informed choices for health training programs.
Training opportunities in all recognized Health Training Institutions throughout the country Government, Private Not for Profit (PNFP) and Private for Profit (PFP), by ownership, location, training programs, and their duration-are stated in this publication. The publication also gives detailed information on entry requirements, the nature of work one will do upon completion of the training, and key personality and competence related information, relevant for decision and choice making.
Users of this publication are reminded that it is for career guidance and career information dissemination only. It should not be taken to be a replacement of any other information guides for choice making, which are issued from time to time for students during the time of making choices of institutions.
