Workshop Report on Mainstreaming Entrepreneurship in BTVET Institutions

Abstract

The Government White Paper on Education of 1992 clearly spelt out the importance that Uganda should place on entrepreneurship education and training for it to gain economic growth and stability. The world over, entrepreneurship is widely regarded as an integral player in the business culture of any successful economy, and it is particularly known as an engine for job creation. It is upon this background that Uganda National Commission for UNESCO with the support of UNESCO designed the programme on mainstreaming entrepreneurship in BTVET institutions. The Participation Programme "Mainstreaming Entrepreneurship in BTVET Institutions" aimed at introducing competence based education and training approaches as a methodology of delivering vocational and technical education and training to enable students meet the dynamic market demands. Specifically, the following activities were designed and undertaken: i. Develop appropriate modularized entrepreneurship skills curriculum for all levels of BTVET programmes Develop training manuals based on set standards by Uganda Vocational Qualifications ii. Framework Secretariat Training of teachers and instructors the appropriate methodology of entrepreneurship skills development Planning for the integration of the developed modularized curriculum into the BTVET iv. Programmes This is a report of the proceedings of the workshop on mainstreaming entrepreneurship in BTVET institutions that was carried out in December 2007 at Crested Crane Hotel, Jinja. The report comprises of speeches during the official opening, the presentations made and appendices.
