| dc.description.abstract | The 2nd Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet) Camp was held at Mt. St. Mary's College Namagunga from 26th-28th April 2010. The Camp that attracted 22 ASPnet schools was organized on the Theme quality education for the 21st Century.
The Specific objectives of the Camp were:
1. To raise awareness on the UNESCO 4 pillars of learning in the 21st century. 2. To develop an action plan for 2010/2011.
The Secretary General of Uganda National Commission for UNESCO, Mr. Augustine Omare Okurut in his opening remarks emphasized the need to keep the ASPnet activities focused, especially to their role in basic education as they contribute to holistic education. The work camp was officially opened by Mr. Moses Mugisha, an Education Officer at the Ministry of education and Sports who represented the Director of Basic and Secondary education. He emphasized the importance of using the network to dialogue and gain insights from the more experienced people in the world to be able to cause major positive changes in society and also to create equal opportunities and rights for both boys and girls to enter education, in such a way that discrimination, as a result of financial difficulties, or gender be eradicated.
ASPnet School Coordinators presented reports on the activities they had carried out in the year 2008/09. The participants were taken through on a deeper understanding of the 4 pillars of learning and how these can be integrated into ASPnet activities at school level. A Coordinators meeting was held and, an action plan for 2010/2011 was developed. Conditions for remaining in the network were also agreed upon.
Other activities at the work camp included drama, poetry recitations, music and exhibitions on flagship projects. | en_US |
