dc.description.abstract | SUMMARY
FACTS ABOUT NATIONAL TEACHERS' COLLEGE NAGONGERA AND ITS FIVE- YEAR DEVELOPMENT PLAN (DEC. 1997 DEC. 2002).
National Teachers' College Nagongera is a young Co-educational College that trains pre-and in-service candidates who, after two years' successful completion, obtain Diploma in Education awarded by the Institute for Teacher Education, Kyambogo (ITEK).
It is located in a deeply rural area in Eastern Uganda.
Out of the ten existing National Teachers' Colleges in the country, Nagongera is the only college that did not start in any established infra-structure. However, it has had a steady growth to over six hundred students and thirty permanent lecturers.
Despite limitations, the College has acquired 850 acres of land at its permanent site. Some humble achievements have been realised, but much, much more are needed. Possible strategies for development have been suggested for this very needy College.
A five year (December 1997 -December 2002) development programme has been drawn for the College to improve its infra- structure and general working environment. They are immediate and long terms.
Funds for capital development are inadequate and the main sources are students, Community, Sympathetic Donors and the Government of Uganda. There is an urgent need to have basic infrastructure, if the College is to play its role as required. Hence an earnest appeal for generous contribution (materially, financially or otherwise) from everyone who feels concerned. | en_US |
