| dc.description.abstract | INTRODUCTION
The lesson plans which appear in this book are part of the support materials which we have prepared for your COPE learning centre. For instructions on how to use them, you must read The Instructor's Guide to COPE. Do not just teach from this book before you have read and understood everything in the Guide, and the COPE syllabus.
In particular, bear the following points in mind:
. No lesson is isolated from others. It is part of a groups of lessons (a Unit, a Topic or Subtopic). This is again part of the syllabus. The syllabus also is part of the whole COPE curriculum. The curriculum has been designed to help the pupils to attain a basic education, and to acquire practical and life skills.
• The objectives of a lesson or group of lessons are the important things to concentrate on. If pupils fail to acquire the knowledge and skills they are supposed to acquire, we have all failed.
• Do not be a slave to the lesson plans you find in this book. Adapt them to suit your situation, your own ideas and to what works in your class. On the other hand, do not ignore them. They have been written by good and experienced teachers.
• Remember to copy each lesson plan into an exercise book. Don't rely on this book in class. It is not suitable for class use. See also page 29- 30 of the Guide.
. Don't forget to evaluate the pupils' progress, your own performance, and these materials. Everybody will benefit from this, particulary the most important person in this whole process: the pupil.
