    Abstract
Introduction to the Trainer's Guide 1. Aims The purpose of this Guide is to: Provide trainers with additional information and examples to assist with the presentation of the module "Putting Textbooks into the Hands of Pupils". Provide some ideas as to how the contents of the Module might be presented to the trainees. ✓ Acquaint the trainers with other issues directly related with the policy of putting textbooks into the hands of pupils. 2. Preparation Before starting the training you should do the following: ✔Study the module carefully so that you are conversant with the content. ✓Make a plan for presentation of each Unit. ✓ Identify issues where there is uncertainty and seek professional advice from the Ministry of Education & Sports. The Instructional Materials Unit will be of great help to you. Prepare a few questions that will be helpful in reviewing the Unit. 3. Summary of content The module covers an Introductory Unit and five other Units. Unit 1 gives guidelines on usage policy of instructional materials from P1 to P7. A summary of the key points regarding the policy is given. Unit 2 deals with issues directly related to the new policy, i.e, training, timing, training modules and storage. Unit 3 gives a presentation of different stakeholders and their roles. Unit 4 gives the guidelines on textbook care ("the do's and the don'ts"). Unit 5 summarizes the general guidelines on loss and damage policy at school level. 4. Appendices There are 5 appendices accompanying the guide. The same appendices are affixed to the module. Appendix 1 is a display of the approved list of textbooks and teachers' guides for the current curriculum. Appendix 2 is a display of the non-book materials that were supplied to all government-aided schools in FY 2001/02. Appendix 3 is a prototype of a circular letter that a school head teacher should write to parents/guardians to inform them about the reading scheme for the lower primary. Appendices 4 and 5 are prototypes of circular letters to parents/guardians for the reading/lending scheme for P3-P4 and P-P7 respectively.
