    Abstract
INTRODUCTION TO THE MANUAL The Tutor/Trainer is a mediator between the training programme and the trainee. He/she therefore needs to be equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes and values for effective delivery of the content. This manual is designed as a practical step-by-step guide for the trainer to deliver the course. It consists of 17 course units that provide further breakdown of the units into sub units. In each of the sub units, the trainer is guided by the systematically selected vital information and a procedure of training. A tentative time frame has been allocated for each unit. PURPOSE It has been observed that the training institutions lack adequate up-to-date instructional materials. Furthermore the glaring understaffing in colleges put pressure and heavy workload on the few tutors available; hence there is hardly time to read across many texts, let alone unavailability of text materials for the students. This manual comes handy in providing the tutor with the essential facts and processes for each unit, that will facilitate teaching and learning for each course. It should be used hand in hand with the curriculum, the suggested texts and other instructional materials. ORGANISATION OF THE MANUAL This manual is divided into 4 sections. Section A contains the preliminary/introductory pages that give the rationale and an overview of the contents of the manual. It also includes summary of the curriculum. Section B provides the detailed breakdown of the 17 course units covered by an Certificate Comprehensive Nurse under each course title. A list of units and their content outline are given. In order to direct the trainer, each course has general objectives and the expected output (competencies) to be achieved at the end of the unit. The trainer is expected to deliver the course content topic by topic following the suggested methods while emphasizing the requirements that have been drawn to enable the trainer prepare the session in advance and ensure preparation of adequate instructional materials for the practical work. It is important that for each unit that the trainer carries out the required experiments, field survey, demonstration or contact the resource persons at the practicum sites before the sessions. This helps to ensure maximum utilization of time during training. At the end of each unit, follow up activities have been suggested. A list of references and annexes are attached for better sourcing of information. The 17 course units are to be covered in 2½ years
