Implementing New Primary School Curriculum
Abstract
INTRODUCTION TO THE NEW UGANDA PRIMARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM
Volume 1 of the New Uganda Primary School Curriculum was launched in 1999 and Volume 2 in January 2002. The new curriculum has introduced a number of important changes in order to improve the quality of learning for all pupils in our Primary Schools. The purpose of this unit is to help teachers understand the changes that have been made.
Objectives
The objectives of this unit are to help teachers to:
⚫ understand why the new Uganda Primary School Curriculum was introduced ⚫ outline the aspects of the new Primary School Curriculum that are different from the Uganda Primary School Syllabus (1990)
develop a better understanding of the arrangement of the new curriculum
understand the changes that need to be made in order to implement the new curriculum.

2. Understanding terms: Syllabus/Curriculum
3. An overview of the new Primary School Curriculum
4. The role of the teachers and other stakeholders in the implementation of the curriculum 5. The format of the new Primary School Curriculum
6. A comparison of the old and new Primary School Syllabuses and the implementation plan
for the introduction of new subject areas 7. Subject allocation and timetabling
8. Assessment in the new Primary School Curriculum
