Module on Literacy Enhancement: A Teachers Resource to Enhance the Teaching of Literacy in Primary Schools

Abstract

1.0. Introduction You are welcome to the first unit of this module. In this unit will explore different strategies for teaching the listening and speaking skills. Listening and Speaking are pre-requisite skills for developing other language skills i.e. Reading and Writing. Once learners have acquired the listening and speaking skills in one language they are likely to transfer this to the learning of other languages. When introducing a new language to learners it is important to use a variety of listening and speaking activities. This will make them good listeners and fluent speakers of the language. 1.1. Learning Outcome: By the end of this unit you will be able to use a variety of strategies to enhance learners' listening and speaking skills.
