dc.description.abstractUganda National Commission for UNESCO in partnership with Uganda Human Rights Commission, Uganda Journalist Association (UJA), UN Human Rights, Human Rights Network for Journalist and African Centre for Media Excellence (ACME) on the 3rd of May 2019 marked and celebrated the World Press Freedom Day on the Theme; Media for Democracy: Journalism and Elections in Times of Disinformation. In the same way, Uganda National Commission for UNESCO carried out awareness creation activities in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Central regions of Uganda on the establishment of the National Mechanism on the safety of Journalists based on the UN Plan of Action on the Safety of Journalists and the issue of Impunity. This report therefore covers in summary the activities implemented to celebrate World Press freedom Day as well as the activities carried out to build the capacity of journalists on freedom of expression, safety of journalists, and fighting impunity for crimes against media professionals.en_US
