Report on the Project to Enhancing Knowledge and Skills on the Safety of Female Journalists and Promotion of Freedom of Expression in Uganda
Abstract
Uganda National Commission for UNESCO (UNATCOM) in partnership with Uganda Media Women's Association (UMWA) partnered to implement several activities including: the Celebration of the World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) 2021, the celebration of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists that falls on November 2nd and conducting four training sessions on the Safety and Security for female journalists, one training in each of the four locations representative of Uganda's four regions (Central - Kampala; Northern - Gulu; Eastern - Mbale; and Western - Hoima).
The overall development objective was to improve the knowledge, skills and safety of the female journalists; the underlying objectives for various activities was to raise awareness of stakeholders on the importance of the safety and security of female journalists and their contributions as frontline workers; and to celebrate World Press Freedom Day 2021, and the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists 2021.
This Report, therefore, presents the highlights of the celebration of World Press Freedom Day; the Celebration of the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists; and a summary of the regional trainings on the safety and security of female Journalists.
