    Abstract
This model for schools and surrounding communities on sustainable integrated water resource management has been developed on the basis that problems related to poor water resource management can be addressed by the schools. Schools unfortunately, emphasize the academic curriculum and ignore their role in addressing community issues like water. Water resource issues are taught in academic subjects such as science in primary schools and biology and geography in secondary Schools, however no practical work is done to address the water issues in the school and communities Urgent action needs to be taken, to ensure the sustainable protection of water resources. Public participation is essential. Schools and the surrounding communities (who are also change agents) are the most affected and must be educated on how to manage their water resources well.
